Theodore!

On January 20th, Theodore Lee Carter decided to make his debut. Congratulations to Sue and John! Katie's excited to have another cousin. She's visited Theo twice so far and today she even got him to stop crying.

January Photos

Here are some photos of Katie this January. She went to the National Arboretum to see their Christmas display and model trains, met her fictional friend Olivia, saw her favorite band Rocknoceros (not pictured), went to the zoo, and dogsat Junebug and Clyde.

Katie Meets Izzy

My sister Lisa got a puppy while we were in Georgia and we stopped by to see her. Her name is Izzy and Katie loved her. She still talks about her but I hope Katie didn't traumatize poor Izzy by chasing her, squealing, throwing things at her, and trying to hug her.

Izzy looks like a great pup that will provide lots of memories for the Scheniders.  Congratulations!

Here's a short video of Katie playing with Izzy:

Christmas in Georgia

This year we spent Christmas with my family in Georgia. Katie had a great time with her Grandma and Papa, her Aunts and Uncles, and, of course, her cousins. We spent Christmas with my parents and the Scheniders in Winder and then drove down to see my other sister that lives near Alabama. On the way down we stopped at the Pink Pig in Atlanta. It's an Atlanta tradition for parents to take their kids to ride the pig train. We all went as kids but some of us have no memory of it.

Melinda and Tim were great hosts as usual and Katie loved playing with her cousins. She tried to play Guitar Hero with them but mostly played with dolls and ran around. She was a lot more independent which made this visit a lot different than last Thanksgiving. One day we all went ice skating which was fun. Katie was a trooper on her skates and the other cousins eventually got the hang of it. Steven was zipping around the rink like Ovechkin.

We also went for a nice walk along the Chattahoochee River, crossing briefly into Alabama so Nancy can say she's been there. We also went to the Infantry Museum at Fort Benning. Katie said she wanted to see a ballerina at the war museum which made us all chuckle but darned if she didn't find one! It was on the Christmas Tree in the lobby of the museum. She was so excited she started twirling and leaping around.

We then drove back to my parents house in Winder with a brief pitstop at the world-famous Varsity in downtown Atlanta. Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton have all visited the Varsity.

We also celebrated Nancy's birthday in Georgia. My parents kindly babysat Katie while we went to a movie (Up in the Air) and then ate pizza at the Mellow Mushroom. The movie was good but not the best choice to celebrate a birthday. We probably should have seen It's Complicated instead.

Before we left Georgia, we found out that my sister Lisa got a new puppy! So we stopped by to see it and let Katie scare the bejesus out of the poor thing. Izzy wasn't expecting a little screechy thing to keep hugging her and trying to put her in her lap.

The drive back was long and sad. It was hard saying goodbye to everyone but we weren't looking forward to getting back in the car. During our 8 day visit, we spent a total of 35 hours in the car which was 27% of the time we were awake. We look forward to the next time when we can see everyone but we're hoping to find a shortcut!

All the Christmas photos are here.

La Tour Eiffel

We finally got our photos developed from our day on top of the Eiffel Tower and our boat ride through the heart of Paris. The photos are a bit grainy but not bad for a disposable camera. You can see the photos here.
