Wednesday Update
Sorry for the lack of posts today. Blogspot locked me out because this was flagged as a spam blog and then the wifi connection went down at the hospital. I suspect that Van Damme is behind it all.
Nancy made amazing progress in her recovery last night and was able to walk around some today and do other normal things. Best of all, she got to spend some quality time with Katherine. It looks like we're on track to go home on Friday. We can't wait!
Thanks to everyone for all their well-wishes and congratulations. It was really nice to hear from so many people.
Below are some photos from today. I'll probably hold off on posting more photos until we go home and Katherine meets Rusty for the first time.
Speaking of Rusty, we've heard unconfirmed reports that he is "happy as a clam" on Sue and John's farm and does not want to return to city life. He's enjoyed dinners with bacon grease, chased deer, and played with chickens. Little does he know that he'll have a new roommate when he gets home.

Tuesday Night Update
Nancy and Katherine are both recovering nicely from their big day. Katherine has learned how to grab Daddy's finger and had her first bath. She also likes to kick. Watch out Van Damme.
Tonight we realized that we haven't been outside in over 48 hours. We tried to remember the last time we stayed inside that long and couldn't come up with anything. Even during the hurricane we stepped outside to look at the sky like morons.
I'll post more photos and some video later in the week. Don't worry, there's no video of the birth.

It's a Girl!
Meet Katherine! She was born at 1:30pm and weighs a healthy 8 lbs 9 ozs. She's 20.25 inches long. Mom and daughter are resting now. More info and photos coming soon. Yay!
Tuesday Afternoon Update
It looks like we're going to Plan C. We should have some news before 6:00pm today.
Late Morning Update
We've switched to the go-go baby balm. We'll see how that goes.

Tuesday Morning Update
Good morning.
The contractions subsided during the night. Dr Caskie came in around 6am and decided to back off on the magic baby juice (aka Oxytocin) for now to give Nancy a chance to rest. After a few hours, they turned it back on. The doc said the baby still looks very healthy and the contractions have looked good since they turned on the juice again. If the contractions don't get stronger in a few hours, then they will probably switch to the go-go baby balm.
It sounds like one way or another, the baby is coming today. We both feel rested and ready to go but slightly greasy and unkempt. We both got a decent night's sleep last night. I've figured out how to sleep in a chair and Nancy has gotten used to sleeping with tubes and monitors attached to her. Sleeping any other way may seem weird after this. We may need to refurnish our bedroom.
We're trying to coax the baby out by telling it there are fun things like toys and cute outfits that are waiting for it. If that doesn't work, we may start demanding that it come out now or it'll have to go sit in the timeout chair. That is what medical doctors like to call the "final straw". My apologies if this is too technical.
I think I'm forbidden from taking any more photos until there's a baby or until Nancy can take a shower. I'll see what I can do.

Around midnight the nurse cranked up the baby magic juice machine to full throttle. Immediately afterwards, Nancy had some strong contractions but they've backed off a bit since then. We're going to try to get some sleep now. I'll post if anything changes. Good night.

Monday Night Update
Dr Caskie came in and was surprised the contractions weren't stronger. She increased the dosage of baby magic juice and will keep monitoring everything. We've been listening to the baby's heartbeat on the monitor and it's really pumping strongly. It averages about 140 beats per minute so we think it must be doing jumping jacks in there or something.
Monday Evening Update
We're still waiting... Sue stopped by to say hi. We're hanging out and watching the UConn-Rutgers game.
Our New Basement
Since we're basically just killing time at this point, I put together a quick video showing before and after views of our basement. Enjoy!
Monday Afternoon Update
Dr Caskie just broke Nancy's water! She thinks the big moment could be around 9:00 or 10:00 tonight at the earliest. Or it may occur in the middle of the night or tomorrow morning. Hard to say now. Nancy's contractions are getting steadier and stronger. We're just hanging out in the room and listening to Crowded House's greatest hits.
Monday Morning Update
We arrived at the hospital at midnight on Sunday. Our nurse Kelly gave Nancy something to help induce her. It produced some contractions but by morning they had waned. Nancy said she didn't realize she was having contractions to which the nurse replied, "Those are the best kind!"
Around 8:00am I discovered that the hospital has wifi internet access and will post any news here as soon as I can.
Dr. Caskie arrived around 8:30am and started another process for inducement. She said this may take a while and she doesn't expect much to happen until tonight or possibly tomorrow. She's trying to do everything she can to induce a natural birth (is that an oxymoron?).
Nancy has been napping on and off which is good because she didn't get much sleep last night. It's hard to sleep solidly when the nurse comes in every 30 minutes for something. I guess it's good practice for parenthood.
Our day nurse Valerie said all the delivery rooms are full. She said whenever there's a storm, they get a lot of deliveries. It's the only old wives' tale she believes about babies being born and she believes it has to do with the barometric pressure dropping.
