Katie at Soccer Camp

Katie participated in a Soccer Camp last week. She was a little frightened by some of the games but Nancy was there to help her get through it. As the week went on, she became more and more brave and by the last day she was doing all the games herself and having a great time.

The game that Katie liked the least was called "The Sleeping Giant." The coach would lie down near his "treasures" (soccer balls and orange cones) and the kids would creep up and try to take the treasures before the giant woke up and chased them away. That's scary for people of all ages! We played it at home to show Katie that it was just pretend but she would only play if we promised not to wake up and chase her.

The camp was run by a British organization and her coach was a college soccer player in London. It was his first time visiting the U.S. There's no telling what he thinks of American kids after that week. We're a little concerned about the British psyche after seeing the games they play, especially the one called "Kick the Gas Bombs".

Anyway, the week was a little tougher than anyone expected but Katie showed a lot of bravery by sticking with it. Every morning we'd ask her if she wants to go back to the camp and she would enthusiastically answer "Yes!" without any hesitation.
