Labor Day Weekend

Katie had a busy Labor Day Weekend, and there's still one day to go. On Thursday she went to the Air and Space Museum with her Mom and some friends. She saw lots of rockets and planes and even got to play with some of the planes. They had a space for kids that had toy planes that she could step into and run around. Then Nancy and Katie went to the Building Museum to see an amazing Lego exhibit. Some people with a lot of time on their hands recreated some of the most famous buildings in the world in legos. As luck would have it, I work next door to the museum so we met up at the end of the day and went home together.

On Friday Katie went to work with me. Four of my co-workers have kids about the same age as Katie so we conspired to bring our kids in and let them romp around. It's the third time we've done it this summer and so far there haven't been any major disasters (the other people in the office may have a different opinion). We all stayed in the large conference room and the kids played with toys, watched movies, and drew on the whiteboard. The adults mostly chatted and pretended to work. Katie was very well behaved but now she has a warped sense of what I do all day (well, somewhat).

Saturday Katie got to see her favorite Austrian family, the Von Trapps! She went to the beautiful Wolf Trap outdoor theater. It's a National Park that is nestled in the woods in the Virginia countryside. It's probably our favorite place to see a concert but it had been a while since we had seen someone there (Natalie Merchant and Wilco may have been our last show there around 2002). The day was one of the nicest ones of the summer which was perfect because we had lawn seats. We brought a blanket and some snacks and enjoyed the Sound of Music. Katie sang along and danced a little. We all had a fun time. When our neighbor Kel found out that Katie was going, she talked her husband into taking her the next day!
