Katie in Georgia

Last week Katie and I flew to Georgia to visit her Grandma and Papa. Nancy stayed in Virginia to get some rest, get a massage, and watch some movies. Katie had a great time and, lucky for me, was on her best behavior. She spent lots of quality time with her grandparents the first few days. They fed the birds, left apples for the deer, colored, dressed up, and watched movies.

On Saturday we went to see Georgia Tech play NC State. We got there early and watched the GT band perform outside the stadium. That was pretty much the highlight. The bees wilted in the heat and so did we. We sat and sweated in the sun for three quarters before leaving with GT down 31-14. As soon as we walked out, GT scored 2 quick touchdowns but ultimately fell 45-28. It was fun to be at the game with Katie and singing the fight song, especially the 2nd stanza:
Oh! If I had a daughter, sir, I'd dress her in White and Gold,
And put her on the campus to cheer the brave and bold.
But if I had a son, sir, I'll tell you what he'd do
He would yell, 'To hell with Georgia!' like his daddy used to do.

The song features 8 occurrences of the word "helluva" and I was really glad Katie didn't pick up on it and add it to her vocabulary. GT cooperated by not scoring much while we were there.

After the game, my sisters and their families met at my parents' house. Katie had a great time playing with her cousins. She played all the classics like tag, freeze tag, duck-duck-goose, and hide-and-seek.

The trip back was long and sad. It was hard saying goodbye to everyone and our flight was delayed because of rain. It's not advisable to give a kid twizzlers and gummy bears before sitting in a crowded airport terminal for 3 hours. But apart from being a little restless, Katie did great. In fact, when we landed the older man next to us said that Katie was the best little traveler he had ever seen!

As we walked through the DC airport, Katie spotted her mommy at the end of the corridor and ran to her yelling "Mommy!" and then promptly tripped and fell. She picked herself and kept running though and gave Mommy a big hug and said "I missed you Mommy!" It was very cute.

Thanks to everyone, especially my parents, for making our trip so enjoyable. We looked forward to doing it again soon!
