Katie in Spring

Katie's been enjoying our Spring weather in the last week. She spent a few days at her Aunt Sue and Uncle John's farm and then went to a Nationals game with our friends Marlee and Brad and their 2 boys. All the kids behaved amazingly well and one of them (Connor) even fell asleep for a few innings. Judging by the 2-0 score, the Cubs were asleep too.

Katie's favorite parts of the game were all the clapping, the music between innings, and the giant presidents. We had no problems taking Metro to and from the game. We had a great time despite the fall weather. How come every baseball game we go to is chilly?!?!

More of Mom and Dad in DC

Tonight Mom and Dad hopped on the mid-evening train to Georgia. Everyone was sad to see them go -- especially Katie. When we returned to the house, she kept looking for her Grandma and Grandpa Thomason.

It was great fun having Mom and Dad up here for a week and we got to spend lots of quality time with them. During the week, they danced with Katie, saw a kid's magician (the Great Zucchini), went to the Air and Space museum and the Spy museum, watched more hockey than they've ever seen, played at our neighborhood park several times, watched Katie splash in the frog pool they gave her for her birthday, ate lots of yummy food, and walked around the Alexandria waterfront.

It seemed like the entire week was spent laughing, eating, and clapping. A very good time indeed. We were very happy they could make the trip up to DC and were very sorry to see them leave.

Spring is Here!

Today was a beautiful Spring day in DC! The forecast called for rain but it ended up being nice and sunny. We took Katie for a run along the Potomac and hung out at Gravelly Point for a while. There's always a lot going on there and it's so nice to sit and watch it all. There were kayakers and boaters on the river, planes taking off from National Airport, people flying kites, playing kickball, having picnics, bikers, runners, and guys playing in a spirited rugby match.

Katie loved walking in the park. We couldn't get her to turn around. She wanted to keep walking further away from the stroller. Finally, when the stroller was barely in sight anymore, we had to carry her back.

Katie shares her dad's affinity for dandelions. We both think we should have more of them in our yard (to Nancy's dismay).

One funny side note, we completely underestimated the distance of the run we were undertaking. We parked at the marina on Daingerfield Island and thought it was only a mile or so to Gravelly Point, which we could handle in our sadly out-of-shape conditions. Well... it ended up being nearly 3 miles. So our leisurely, scenic run turned into a 6-mile trek that we definitely weren't ready for. I had to take lots of walk breaks but Nancy managed to run most of it. Very impressive.

Easter in Scranton

I'm just now getting around to posting the photos from Easter. We had a fun weekend in Scranton staying with Nancy's sister Sarah and her family. Nancy's mom came down from Connecticut for the weekend and Sarah hosted a brunch on Easter Sunday for Paul's family.

Katie enjoyed playing with her nephews and even got to participate in the Easter egg hunt. I'm at the point where the nephews can beat me in pretty much everything. This time it was H-O-R-S-E and Wii. Maybe next time we could find a game involving linear regressions or 80's trivia. That'll show 'em.
