Dog Parks, Carrots, and Tim

On Sunday Rusty seemed a bit restless so we took him to the wonderful Four Mile Run dog park. It is usually populated with dogs in all shapes and sizes and they love the creek ("run" in Virginia parlance) that runs through it. Some dogs were fearless as they ran and swam in it to get a tennis ball. Rusty preferred to stroll through it without getting his torso wet. We tried to get him to retrieve a tennis ball but he would simply mosey over to it, sniff it, and then lose interest when he realized it wasn't food. Next time we need to smear it in peanut butter, I guess.

Katie reached another big milestone on Monday -- her first time eating a vegetable. She ate a small bowl of mushy carrots. She was skeptical of them at first and didn't seem to enjoy them but ate them all anyway. She gave us a priceless, "What the heck is this?" face but kept eating. Actually, after looking at the photos, we're not really sure any of the carrots made it inside her mouth. Nancy fed them to her again today and she had better table manners.

We got a surprise visit tonight from my brother-in-law Tim. He was in town for a conference and it was great to see him. We had a nice dinner in Old Town at South Austin Grill (great salsa) and then we strolled down to the waterfront. The wine-glass musician guy was there and was as amazing as ever. He played several songs for Katie but she was more interested in telling us she was tired. The balloon-animal-guy was also there but it wasn't the regular guy -- it was a substitute. He looked bored and disinterested and spent the whole time texting people on his phone while wearing a brightly colored clown outfit. It was a little twisted.
