Cape Cod, part 2

It's been a crazy week since we left the Cape but things are starting to settle down now. Our last few days at the Cape were very nice and contained a couple of firsts. Katie took her first swim and had her first (and maybe last) babysitter.

Poor Sue experienced Katie in full meltdown but somehow managed to get her to go to sleep (very impressive!). But it may be a while before Sue agrees to babysit again. We were thankful we could sneak out long enough to see the Simpsons Movie. Thanks Sue!

Katie's first swim took place in the heated outdoor pool on the Cape. The unheated pool and the ocean were too cold. I never knew a place existed in which outdoor pools had to be artificially heated in August to make them tolerable. Katie seemed to like the pool but was mostly expressionless the whole time. I think she was unsure what to make of this enormous bathtub. Nancy said that Katie went completely limp and was very relaxed. Later, when we returned to Virginia, Nancy took her to our neighborhood pool and said she absolutely loved it. She was kicking and splashing and having a ball. That 40 year old Olympic swimmer better watch out.

Nancy's Aunt Roberta and Uncle Jim came down to the Cape from Boston to visit for the day. It was nice to see them again and we enjoyed a nice pizza dinner. Later I played the nephews in mini-golf and lost. Good thing there was no wagering.

Eventually, we had to leave which was hard. The drive back to Virginia was long but thankfully we had a reservation at the Butler B&B to help break up the trip.

Katie seemed to really enjoy Cape Cod. I think her favorite things were playing in the sand (and eating it), rolling on the floor, and having so many people's fingers to chew on.

Many thanks to Nancy's Mom for being such a good hostess and for everyone who helped take care of Katie during our stay, especially Sara, Sue, and Roberta. It was really nice to see everyone and to have the nephews there to play with.

Here are the rest of the photos from the trip and some photos of Katie in her favorite new toy -- the exersaucer. There are also some photos of Katie enjoying Georgia Tech's resounding victory over Notre Dame. Go Jackets! Sue has some really good photos of Nancy and Katie on the Cape which I'll post as soon as they are ready.
