Day at the Zoo

Yesterday was beautiful in DC so we decided to stop eating candy long enough to go to the National Zoo. We wanted to show Katie some of the animals she likes in her books including the giraffe. It was her 3rd (or maybe 4th) visit to the zoo but it was the first time she was awake and upright during it.

As we were walking to the entrance from the parking lot, we kept saying "You're going to see a giraffe Katie!" and she responded by excitedly doing the sign for giraffe. We were all excited about seeing giraffes until we got to their pen and found out they moved to Florida. The elephant space is being expanded and there was no room for the giraffes anymore. We were bummed. Katie kept doing the sign for giraffes all day.

But she did get to see some great animals including two lions, a tiger, seals, sea lions, beavers, an eagle, an alligator, an ostrich, orangutans, and monkeys. The monkeys were eating apples, which may have confused her because we've been telling her they eat bananas.

Afterwards we had a nice dinner at Two Amys, a great pizza place in DC near the National Cathedral.
