The Great Burger

Last weekend was all about food. On Saturday we went to the famous Ray's Hell Burger in Arlington. It's a block from my office and but it's best known as the place Obama and Biden stopped for a burger a few weeks ago. We saw the motorcade go by our office but didn't realize they were stopping so close! Ray's Hell Burger was the last place we thought they'd go, but since then Obama has stopped at several other burger places around town.

We had always heard amazing things about Ray's Hell Burger so we were eager to try it. We weren't disappointed. The burgers are amazing and HUGE! You end up eating more meat than you thought possible but you don't regret it. It's not greasy. You definitely have to study the menu beforehand. It's a lot to absorb. You start by picking whether you want the burger to be grilled, seared with peppercorn, blackened with cajun spices, or "diablo-grilled". Then you pick from many different cheeses and toppings. You can get very adventurous and pick from things I'd never heard of like fontina, chimay a la biere, Queen Anne Stilton, and Epoisse de Bourgogne. Other things sounded familiar but slightly scary like cave-aged cheddar (a cave? really?) and roasted bone marrow. Here's the menu.

After we stuffed ourselves, we went to the nearby Iwo Jima memorial and ran around for a bit. Katie loved the wide-open spaces and the great view of DC.

On Sunday we went to our favorite place for brunch, Whitlows Grill.
