Nancy had been prepping her for weeks by telling her exactly what was going to happen. "We'll take you to your school, you can run around the playground and swing with your friends, then we'll say goodbye and Mommy and Daddy will leave and you'll go inside and play with your friends." This worked really well and got Katie excited, except this morning when Nancy was telling her what was going to happen. Katie interrupted her and said, "Mommy don't leave me." It was very cute and sad.
When we got to the school, she ran around on the playground, climbed on everything, and played in the sand. When she hopped on the swing and one of the teachers started pushing her, we waved goodbye and slipped out. We were amazed at how easy it was.... this time.
Back at the house, it was odd not having Katie around but we each dealt with it in different ways. I worked. Rusty slept. Nancy took a shower.
When Nancy picked her up a few hours later, Katie ran to her and yelled "Mommy!" and gave her a big hug. We celebrated by going out for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Luna Grill.
Each school day Katie's teachers send out an email with photos and a description of what the kids did that day. Click here to see their email from today.
Here are some photos from Katie's big day and some from last week when she met her teachers for the first time. Click here for more photos.
