Spring Break 2011

This week is Katie's Spring Break and it's already been a busy one. On Sunday we walked down to Del Ray for the Easter Egg hunt. Katie found a few eggs filled with yummy chocolate and talked to the Easter bunny. Unfortunately, we didn't win the raffle for the giant 25 lb chocolate bunny (made with milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and white chocolate). We saw our neighbor Liz there who we always enjoys seeing.

On Monday Katie saw a play at the Adventure Theater, a children's theater in DC that's been there since 1951. The play was based on the book "If You Give a Cat a Cupcake" which is one of Katie's favorites. Afterwards she played in the nearby park. Peter slept through it. That night we ate at our favorite diner, Bob & Edith's, and then went to see the Tulip Library near the Tidal Basin.

Wednesday Katie and I went to the circus! It was her first time seeing the Ringling Bros Greatest Show on Earth. It was at the Patriot Center, the arena on the campus of George Mason University. We both had a good time. We saw elephants, tigers, llamas, ponies, acrobats, trapeze artists, motorcycles, and, of course, clowns. She said her favorite parts were the elephants and the mermaid (who just sat there and waved at the beginning). It's probably not a good sign when you spend twice as much on food as you did on the tickets. But we enjoyed the hot dogs, lemonade, popcorn, and cotton candy. Yum! There were tons of souvenirs for sale everywhere that lit up and whirled and twirled and I thought for sure I was either going to have to pay a fortune or deal with a crying child. But we managed to get out of there with only a big floppy clown hat and that was by mistake (it came with the cotton candy).

Thursday we had a kid's day at my office and the theme was Egypt. The kids watched a cartoon about King Tut, drew hieroglyphics on a piece of big paper, made pyramids out of cupcakes and "sand" made out of crushed up graham crackers (I think). They also ate pizza and got temporary tattoos with Egyptian themes like the sphinx, Cleopatra, and King Tut. They also chased each other around the office and scribbled on the white boards. There was a good turnout. There were a total of 9 kids there.

Tomorrow we go to Scranton to spend Easter weekend with Nancy's sister Sara and her family. We'll return Sunday night and then it's back to school on Monday for Katie. I hope she wasn't planning on relaxing during her Spring Break!

Silly Katie, we're learning about Egypt, not Messopotamia.
