Katie's 5th Birthday!

Katie celebrated her 5th birthday on Monday!  It's hard to believe she's 5 already!  She was so excited.  For the week before her birthday, she would wake up and excitedly announce how many days there were before her birthday.  "Mommy!  Only 2 days until my birthday!"  It was very cute.

Nancy was the co-op parent at school on Katie's birthday and I came in with Peter when they celebrated.  Nancy and Katie read her favorite story to the class ("Falling for Rapunzel") and then we enjoyed cupcakes.  Afterwards, Katie played on the playground with her friends and then we went to her favorite restaurant, Whitlows, for lunch.

We returned to the house to unveil her biggest present -- a new bike!  She outgrew her trike and had been asking for a new bike.  She was so excited when she saw it.  She took a few quick rides on it but was a little wobbly.  She's gotten a lot more confident on it since then.  In fact, maybe too confident -- she accidentally rode into some bushes today.

Then we went back inside to unwrap all the great presents from everyone (thanks everyone!).  For dinner we went to another of her favorite places -- Bob & Edith's Diner.  Then it was back to the house for cake and happy birthday singing.  We started to suspect something was wrong when she didn't eat her cake but we didn't find out what until later, when she got sick all over her bed.  Oh well.  It's probably not the last time her birthday will end up like that.  Let's just hope it doesn't happen again for a long time.
