Gone are the years when her birthday was an all-day celebration. I would take the day off work and we'd go do something fun at the Smithsonian or the zoo. But now she has school all day and this year had tap dancing afterwards. So the celebration didn't begin until 5pm or so.
We had dinner at the restaurant of her choice which was Whitlow's (which made her Mom very happy). Then we came home and opened presents and ate a yummy red velvet cake with vanilla icing (Katie's choice) that was a special creation by Chef Nancy with help from Sous Chef Peter.
Katie's presents were a nice mix between fun, practical, and educational. She got Monolopy Jr, a Bubble Gum making kit, a crystal growing kit, a nice skirt, American Girl doll pajamas (to match her doll McKenna's pajamas), snap circuits, Lego Harry Potter for Xbox, the Frozen soundtrack, and a pink baseball glove.
Katie was very gracious and thankful and excited for all her gifts. Peter, on the other hand, had a little trouble at first with the concept of only Katie getting presents but he finally relented.
In a few weeks Katie will have a birthday party with her friends and featuring a very special guest -- Grandma! Katie keeps asking when Grandma will get here. She's very excited (as are we all).
So Happy Birthday Katie and we look forward to spending many more with you! Thank you for being such a sweetie pie.
