May Update

Katie is developing a very giggly personality and loves to stand up. She needs a little help with balancing but she can support herself nicely with her legs. She also likes the baby she keeps seeing in the mirror and smiles at it and tries to touch it. Much to her mom's chagrin, she's becoming quite the night owl, staying up until 1am and then sleeping until 8 or 9 the next morning (with a snack break in between). Rusty and her dad don't see a problem with that schedule.

We spent Memorial Day weekend at Sue and John's farm (S'more Manor) taking care of the dogs and chickens. Sue & John were frolicking around Savannah and Tybee Island which they said was very nice. The farm was very relaxing and Katie loved looking at the trees, flowers, and the creek. She didn't get to see much of the chickens because Rusty would chase them inside their coup before she got anywhere near them. Rusty and Katie did get to see some deer and groundhogs.

Last week Nancy had a somewhat sad moment when she had to buy Katie bigger diapers. It made her realize just how fast she is growing. She's getting too big to do her "froggy" on our chests and fall asleep. Maybe we could utilize the bonsai techniques to keep her small and cuddly.

Last weekend we went for a long walk with Katie and Rusty into Del Ray to visit the farmer's market. There was a great swing band playing the hits of the 30's and 40's with a lot of people sitting and listening. Rusty was happy that he got more compliments from people than Katie did... but Katie was almost completely covered to protect her from the sun.

Today I wrote a column for the Washington Post which you can read here. And if you have too much time on your hands, you can read some of my other columns here, here, and here.

Here are some photos from the last few weeks. I'll shoot some video of Katie "standing" up and post that in the next few days.
