We usually prefer the US Capital tree but this year it was very skinny, almost scrawny. I guess the economy has been tough on everyone.
The Botanical Garden is next to the US Capital and had a great Christmas display inside. There were lots of trains zipping around inside and all sorts of beautiful displays. There were replicas of some of DC's memorials and an enormous Christmas tree inside.
Things we didn't get to do this year that we usually do are going ice skating at the Sculpture Garden on the Mall and enjoying a nice, cozy dinner at Bilbo Baggins in Old Town Alexandria.
We are looking forward to spending a white Christmas in Connecticut and then going to the Okemo Ski Lodge in Vermont! The resort caters to young families and offers sledding, tubing and day care for lil' Katie. We've already reserved 2 half-days of daycare!
We leave for Connecticut on Monday. We'll stay there until Saturday when we make the 3 hour drive north to Vermont. We return to Connecticut on Tuesday (Dec 30th) and will return to DC on Friday or Saturday. Needless to say, there's no chance we can fit everything we want to bring into the car. Wish us luck! We're going to try to leave DC around 10am so we'll pass through NYC before their afternoon rush hour. That should get us into Naugatuck by 5pm. Hopefully the 12 inches of snow they received this weekend will still be on the ground.
Here are some photos of Katie last weekend. More photos are here.
Merry Christmas!
