We had the party at the soft playroom in Alexandria, which is exactly what it sounds like. Everything in the room is cushioned and padded so kids can flop and fall and tumble without getting hurt (theoretically, at least). Katie had a blast playing with her friends. The room used to be a racquetball court and the sound really echoes in there. But the amazing thing is when you step out the door and you can't hear a thing from the playroom.
After an hour of playing we moved to the party room and had pizza and cake. I thought parents would want to sit so I scrambled and got some more chairs. But they ended up standing most of the time to make sure their kid didn't smear pizza all over the place. Another miscalculation was ordering way too much pizza. We ate it for the next week (and haven't had it since).
But most importantly, Katie had a great time and it was really nice to see her playing with her friends. After the cake the kids opened up a pinata (it had strings they pulled instead of whacking it with a stick). We held up the pinata with a hockey stick, which attempted to counterbalance all the pink princess decorations (plates, napkins, tablecloth, cake, etc...).
We were sorry that Katie's friends Sophie and Cooper were out of town and couldn't make it but we hope to see them soon.

The calm before the storm.

The soft playroom. One of the teachers at Katie's school painted the mural in the back.

The parents hang out while mayhem ensues.

Running amok.

The ball pit.

The birthday girl.

Believe it or not, there are only 4 candles on the cake and it's not on fire.

The photographer didn't get a good picture of the cake before it was carved up. But let me use the power of words to paint a picture: it had 3 princesses and some decorative stuff on top.

The birthday girl enjoys the applause after she blew out the candles.

The boys enjoyed the party too. (Note: it's the elastic band on my party hat that makes it look like I have a major double chin, I hope).

The parents tend to their kids.
