Here's what the kids have been up to in June (so far):
- Katie played soccer while Peter played on the adjacent playground
- The kids went to Krispy Kreme for National Donut Day
- We all went on my company's annual boat trip on the Potomac River
- Tried to see the Transit of Venus at a special event sponsored by the Arlington Planetarium but it was too cloudy. The clouds did part for a minute to let us get a taste of it and use our fancy solar-viewing glasses. This was only the 7th transit since the invention of the telescope nearly 500 years ago. Scientists used the transit in 1639 to estimate the distance between the Earth and Sun. It was really exciting to see it, but also a little disappointing that the clouds got in the way.
- Katie had her final swim class (for now) and is advancing to the Salamander class! She was a Frog this year and made huge progress. She loves going underwater (she used to despise it) and is getting very close to swimming without a life vest.
- The kids went to the zoo and Peter waved at all the animals including the lions, otters, and the orangutans crossing on the overhead wires.
- The kids went to a nearby splash park to play with some of Katie's friends.
- I took the kids to a birthday party for one of my coworker's daughters.
- Nancy took the kids to the Butterfly garden at the Smithsonian with some of Katie's friends.
- Katie and I went to an ice skating show in Arlington.
- We all spent a fun day at the farm playing with Theo and running around in the grass.
- We all saw the movie Tangled outdoors in Del Ray.
- Katie set up a lemonade stand to raise money for her trip to Disney World (this was in response to us telling her that she won't be able to do everything she said she wanted to do because it's too expensive).
Lots of photos are below. More photos are here.

I'm guessing there was no nap after this.

The living room rodeo.
There was a large turnout at the Transit of Venus viewing party in Arlington. Unfortunately, the clouds blocked the view except for a brief moment.
We were prepared with our solar glasses that let us look directly at the sun without damaging our eyes (we hope).
Trying in vain to see Venus.

Katie also learned how to float on her back.

A much different view of the Transit of Venus than what we had. This is from a NASA satellite in space. Here are some other interesting videos.
