Peter, however, was not as excited about wearing his costume (a tiger). We think he wore it more for warmth than anything while trick-or-treating.
Last week my office had a Halloween party for the kids after work. The owner Jeremy dressed up like a mad scientist and conducted all sorts of fun experiments with the kids help.
On the Friday before Halloween we went to the Boo at the Zoo. It takes place at night and they have lots of spooky displays and colorful lights. And they also have lots of places giving away candy and other assorted things. We focused more on the trick-or-treating than seeing the animals. The only animal exhibit we visited was the gorilla house and they were all sound asleep.
Unfortunately, the Del Ray Halloween parade, always a family favorite, was cancelled due to the hurricane. Luckily the weather cleared up in time for trick-or-treating on Wednesday.
Katie's school let the kids wear costumes to school on Halloween day and Nancy went in to help with some Halloween activities.
The kids had a lot of fun going around the neighborhood. Katie knew exactly what to do and Peter sort of caught on. At one point we thought his pumpkin bucket may be too heavy with candy so we tried to reach in and move some of it into a bag but he didn't like that at all. He started crying and saying "Mine! Mine!". He didn't like us taking his candy.
Our neighborhood is fun for trick-or-treating. It's fun to bump into our neighbors either out-and-about with their kids or staying home and handing out candy. Most of the houses participate. It's also one of the few times when it's nice having so many houses packed so closely together. We don't have to walk far to get to the next house!

Mending the costume

Mad Scientist Jeremy shows how electricity conducts through people (it wasn't as scary as it sounds).

Katie and Peter wait patiently for the next experiment to start.

Katie looks at one of the spooky displays at the Boo at the Zoo. This one was a zombie wedding, I think.

A skeleton birthday party.

We finally got Peter's costume on him at the very end of Boo at the Zoo but he wasn't happy about it.

Katie made the jack-o-lantern herself. Nancy had to resist the urge to make the mouth bigger and scarier.

Katie works on a Halloween puzzle at school. Nancy went in and helped out with the activities.

The kids are ready to trick-or-treat.

Going to one of the houses on our block. Peter wanted to be carried between houses but usually wanted to walk up to them with Katie.

Peter with his bounty. The kids got a lot of great loot and they've gotten a lot of help in eating it (unbeknownst to them).

Katie with her bounty.

The sugar kicks in.
