Katherine Meets her Cousins, part II

Katherine went on her first road trip this weekend and did great! She went to Scranton, PA to meet her cousins and Aunt Sara and Uncle Paul. She saw her cousin Matthew receive his first communion. As far as we could tell, he didn't gag on the wafer which is good. There were about 20 other 8 year-old girls and boys that received it with him. It was really cute. We were amazed at how dolled up the girls were. They had their hair done and one even had heels on that, needless to say, she had trouble walking in. The dresses were rumored to cost about $200. Oh the things to look forward to...

Katherine did great in the car during the 4 1/2 hour drive. She was a little fussy at times but her mom gets the same way whenever we hit traffic. We timed the drive beautifully on Friday -- we managed to hit rush hour in every city we passed through.

It was really nice to see everyone again. Nancy's mom made the trip from Connecticut and Paul's family came by after church on Saturday to celebrate Matthew's first communion. Katherine was great all weekend. She smiled and cooed a lot as she spent time with her Steamtown relatives.

I got a taste of Scranton's nightlife on Friday night when I went out for a beer with Paul and his brother-in-law Pat. We went to a comfortable neighborhood Irish bar that was lively but not overcrowded.

The boys are growing up fast and beat their Uncle Frankie and just about everything we played -- horse, FIFA 2005, and something called Super Monkeyball. Next time I'm going to train for several months before we visit so I'll have a chance.

It was hard to leave on Sunday but we had to pick up Rusty at Sue and John's farm and get home at a decent hour. I didn't help matters by making a wrong turn in Leesburg and nearly ending up in West Virginia. Luckily Nancy noticed my mistake before we got into the mountains and she managed to navigate us back on course. Along the way we passed through the picturesque towns of Purceville and Hampton which helped alleviate the aggravation from being lost. We ended up getting home around 10pm on Sunday night.

Here are some photos taken during the trip. The first batch of photos is from Easter last month. Katherine wore a really cute bunny outfit to the church and to Whitlow's for brunch afterwards.
