My parents came up to help out when we go to the delivery room to meet Katie's sibling, but it's proving to be as stubborn as Katie was. The due date has come and gone (Nov 11) and now we're just waiting for Nancy to start screaming or something. Our bags are packed and we're ready to go. The only thing left to do (besides the birth) is to pick out names but we usually make decisions better at the deadline anyway.
We've been busy while we're waiting though. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Katie's Grandma helped pick her up from school and played with her on the playground. She also got to see Pastor Sarah sing songs for the kids. On Wednesday we all ate at out favorite diner (Bob & Edith's) and took a car tour of DC at night. Thursday was ballet day and Katie's Grandma got to see her dance. That night Nancy had some discomfort so we grabbed our bags and headed to the hospital. Everything turned out to be fine and they let us go home. We were pleased that our test run went well and the doctor said the baby looks very happy in there. We think that's why it hasn't decided to come out yet.
On Friday we went to the Kettler Ice Rink in Ballston, Virginia where the Washington Caps practice as well as some notable hockey players (hint: me). We watched some figure skaters practice their routines. It was fun and Katie really enjoyed it. Saturday Katie went with Nancy and my Mom to hear the Nutcracker story read by dancers in the Nutcracker Ballet. Afterwards they performed some of their dances.
Today we went back to Kettler to see a synchronized skate competition. It was really interesting. Teams of 14-16 skaters skated to music on the ice and performed intricate maneuvers. The skating teams we saw were adults but there were some kids teams there that had performed earlier. We weren't quite prepared for the beauty pageant, young diva atmosphere. We made a mental note to discourage Katie from pursuing synchronized skating before the age of 30. In any case, it was fun to see synchronized skating, which we had never seen before. Afterwards we went to the Dairy Godmother for some cold treats and Katie sat in the same chair that President Obama did last year (there was a notice on the seat telling us he sat there).
